Be sure that 2nd worksheet is done. Tests will be handed back tomorrow as well.
Tonight they need to do this worksheet packet. Its due tomorrow. The only change is the last question on the 7-2. THEY ARE TO WRITE 2-4 SENTENCES ON DO THEY AGREE WITH HAMILTON'S IDEA OR JEFFERSON'S IDEA ON WHAT WE SHOULD FOCUS ON. HAMILTON WAS STRONG CENTRAL GOVERNMENT WITH A FOCUS ON TRADE AND INDUSTRY. JEFFERSON'S IDEA WAS LESS GOVERNMENT AND FOCUS ON AGRICULTURE.
7-1 SHEET 7-2 SHEET I am out tomorrow for surgery. There is no homework over break, UNLESS they were not here on Monday to take the test. They will have to take it on the Monday we get back from break. I am sorry, but it is the only way. I also will not be in any shape to grade tests over break, so they will not be done until after we get back. The surgery is on my eyes, so that makes it hard to grade tests. :-) Sorry.
We are watching Founding Brothers in class on Tuesday. There is a worksheet that we are doing with it. They are to turn it in at the end of class and will get it back on Monday to continue the viceos when we return. STUDY FOR THE TEST ON MONDAY:
Use the post below to help you with the Checks and Balances. Use the flash cards I gave you to prep for the Separation of Powers. Pick on of the Bill of rights, please avoid #2 because it is WAY too easy, and write and essay with these elements: The Number of the Amendment, What it says, What about it do you like, and why. No more than 5 sentences please. Make is short, sweet and to the point. That is the test. Remember that the Checks and Balances will be all from your head with one item per ARROW and two per CIRCLE. Separation of Powers will have choices. Tomorrow there is a quiz. It will cover Checks and Balances and Amendments #1-5. You will need to place the branches, what they do with the laws AND what checks they have over the other branches on the chart below. Think about the chart on the board from today. As far as the Amendments: 1. Freedom of: Speech, Religion, press, assembly and petition the government. 2. Right to own firearms 3. Don't have to keep soldiers in you house, no matter what. 4. Government MUST have a warrant to enter your private property to search. 5. Right to remain silent, no DOulbe Jeopardy(being tried for the exact same crime twice), and you have the right to a trial before the government takes your freedom (prison), property (confiscated stuff), or your life (execution) Today we went over Checks and Balances. The students need to know what each branch can do to the others to keep the other two in "check" , thus keeping the "balance" of power. Here is the slide show in .pdf format so they can look at it AND the last 3 slides are a little easier to understand. They are less cluttered and more focused on each branch. POWERPOINT SLIDES FROM CLASS
Here is the HOMEWORK for tonight. I am wanting them to do the 10 questions on this paper. We will be able to tell who does understand this information from this. I can promise that there will be questions about the Checks and Balances on the Chapter 6 Test on Monday, November 21st. Blank Checks and Balances Chart- Use this to fill out and quiz yourself. Check it against the book or your chart. For the last few days, the site would not let me publish it. So, sorry it was not up to date. It was out of my control. I attempted to do it each day. No dice.
This weekend, there is NO homework. We are hitting Checks and Balances Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday we are doing Bill of rights. Thursday we may look at a Supreme Court case and have them analyze it after we talk about our responsibilities as citizens. Friday we will review for the Chapter 6 test. CHAPTER 6 TEST ON MONDAY THE 21st. FOR ALL THOSE WHO SERVED IN THE MILITARY. WE THANK YOU FOR BEING THAT WATCHDOG AS WE SLEPT.
This week we have been wrapping up our study of the Federalists and the Anti-federalists. We finished that on Wed.
Thursday and Friday we are talking about Separation of Powers and taking a look at the Constitution. They are working on a packet/scavenger hunt with the constitution. It was in class today and will be part of Monday as well. What ever is not done on Monday, they are to finish at home. Feel free to work on it it this weekend. The Constitution starts on page 188 in the book What I need you to do this weekend is to cut out, study and use the "FLASH CARDS" please. These will function as a study aid for Separation of Powers, Checks and Balances and 3 Branches of Government. USE THEM!. You have 3 categories with the 3 branches. Cut out each phrase or action, and place them under each column heading. Do this over and over and you will be able to know what each branch is responsible for. With some modifications, you can use these for Checks and balances too. When we get there, I will explain. Yesterday our objective was to introduce the Federalists and Anti-Federalists with a video, after the 5-3 quiz. Based on the Bell Ringer, the kids understood that the Feds liked the Constitution and the Anti Feds did not.
Today our goal was to understand who the Federalists and Anit's were, and what were their arguments for and against. We did NOTES for 5-4 to point these things out. One of the focuses were The Federalist Papers published to convince and calm the Anti Federalists to RATIFY the Constitution. We also discussed that the Anti's wanted a Bill of Rights to protect individual freedoms. When that was promised the Anti's agreed to adopt, or RATIFY the Constitution. In 1791, the first 10 Amendments were added through the AMENDMENT PROCESS to the Constitution. Tonight for homework, they have a worksheet that works with the differences between Federalists and Anti-Federalists, and a part from the Federalist Papers. It is due tomorrow.
