watched part of uncle tom's cabin
There will be racial slurs that were in the original book that were kept
in the film so it would be an accurate representation of the novel.
It was acceptable in the 1850's, but would not and is not considered acceptable today. It was the way people talked about the slaves because they were considered less than human.
In no way is this movie to be taken as saying that use of racial slurs are
acceptable in today's society. We must remember to keep this in a historical
context and this will help us understand why this story sparked such an outrage
in the North over the treatment of slaves in the South.
This movie has been OK’d by Mr. Rinehold for student viewing.
We have the book in the library for students to read, and since it is
kept in historical context, the book was very influential in the opinions of the
North in the pre-Civil War USA, the movie has been approved.
