If they need to rethink some of thie positions. They need to remember that if they feel they did not do well, they can earn the points by adding to others information or pointing out possible errors or pitfalls in others ideas. Friday and Monday in class are the last times we are going to be working on our PBL project. They are to come up with 5 areas, with plans to do it and evidence to back up their decisions (we have been doing that since Monday) and also being sure they are not oppressing the alien beings, that would allow the aline beings to merge into Indiana's society.
They will present at a "round table" discussino with other groups on Tuesday, and if need be, finish up those discussions on Wed. If they need to get forms or paperwork for this you can find them here. We plan on moving into Chapter 15 after that. Today they were introduced to the final stage of the problem.....what suggestions do we offer the state for the aliens.
There are many things we can look at. They are to fall in the category of Social impacts, Economic impacts, or Government impacts. Ideas like: What do we do about housing, education, food, medical, who pays for it, how do we pay for it, should we pay for it, rights?, responsibilities?, places of worship?....etc. They must come up with 5 areas and apply their information they have worked with over the last 4 days and come up with solutions. See PBL tab for the worksheet for tomorrow.
We tried to complete the mast list of migration groups today. Some got it others didn't. I am out tomorrow. Task 2 p Worked more on PBL today. We also discussed women’s
issues and the Seneca Falls Conf. in Seneca New York in 1848. We related that to the concept of oppression. We did this mini-lesson because we want to be sure that the space aliens that are settling here don't have to deal with oppression like other groups in US and world history have in the past. Learning from out mistakes, so to speak. We also had to go over the proper way to document evidence for the project. They must remember to use the 3 areas of possible impact: Economy, Social and Governmental when looking for evidence in the past to support possible outcomes or impacts of the 2,000,000 aliens settling in Indiana. That is a population increase of 20%. Go to my page on Migration PBL to find information and documents to use. Assignment is to redo or re organize their chart so they comply with the requirements of the project. Think of the Spain example from today. Tuesday I will be out because of a conference. The
homework/classwork is as follows: A 3-5 sentence writing on what they learned from the guest speaker 3 worksheets in class and a reading assignment that goes along with 14-3 and 14-5. We had a great 2 days with our guest speaker on the Birth of the Blues. The kids enjoyed it and I am sure they will remember it forever.
